From the editor
It’s a busy time for new rules it seems,
Konflict 47, Bolt Action Two, Congo, The Men Who
Would Be Kings, Swordpoint,
to name but some of the rule sets which are impending or have
recently impended! How does a wargames magazine cope with this tidal wave of new stuff?
The answer is to be not just a magazine, or at least not just the collection of printed pages
you have in your hands.
In our quest to cover all things wargaming,
Wargames Illustrated
has to be more than just a
magazine, it has to be a cross-platform, multi-media portal. Yes, I’m aware that sounds daft,
and I promise not to say that again, but just trying to describe what
Wargames Illustrated
represents now underlines just how confusing it can be. We have the print magazine
(the thing in your hands), the Interactive magazine (the tablet version of the magazine),
Wargames Illustrated
Prime (our online members club), Wargames Illustrated.net (our
website), and, last but by no means least, our Facebook page… oh, and Twitter.

my

news. We will also continue to keep you posted on as much wargaming goodness as we

All that twittering about cross-platform, multi-media portals (doh! I said it again) leaves me
no room at all to tell you that this month’s theme is Warrior Women; four articles covering
heroines of history and one heroine of the hobby. Enjoy!

World War II saw tanks assume a dominant role in warfare,
capable of tearing through the enemy lines if left unchecked.
To combat the threat posed by these armoured behemoths
the United States developed the M1 Anti-Tank Rocket
Launcher, better known as the Bazooka. First employed in
combat during 1942, the weapon required a great deal of
skill and courage to use effectively. By late 1944 it was a
mainstay of the US infantry’s anti-tank capabilities,
alongside towed weapons, anti-tank grenades and other
longer-established measures.
Focusing on the savage close-quarters fighting between
Germany’s armoured divisions and the US infantry during
the Battle of the Bulge, Steven Zaloga’s absorbing study
compares and assesses the strengths and limitations of
the cutting-edge technology used by both sides. Featuring
specially commissioned full-colour artwork and explosive battle reports, this volume casts
new light on the evolving nature of infantry-versus-tank combat in the closing months of
World War II.
