Intro: History
istory - it is impossible to understand the modern world without knowing the past.
After all, history is with us all the time, it is even being created right before our eyes,
and contemporary events will soon be in school textbooks. It is true that we live in
an era of armed conflicts on a global scale, but remember that politics is a war without
military action. The Romans wisely said: si vis pacem, para bellum translated as “if you
want peace, prepare for war”. What’s more that we are not dealing with any mythical
"end of history". History is accelerating. Changes are accelerating more and more, for
example, the US-China trade war may turn into military action. Especially when we re-
member the reasons for the outbreak of World War I.
Is learning history through strategy games a good method? I think it's pretty good, pro-
vided that the creators try to faithfully reproduce the era and do not, for example, place
tanks in the Middle Ages (Civilization and derivatives are, of course, another shelf - al-
ternative stories). In turn, players interested in the topic can read more about the con-
flict, the era and the realities of the day. That's what we encourage you to do because
games about historical conflicts are the main theme of the current issue with an empha-
sis on the American Civil War which has changed the outlook of the people of the United
States and effects we are still observing.
What else is interesting about the issue? I would not like to summarize the table of con-
tents that you will find on the next page and suggest what to read first. Traditionally, we
have descriptions, reviews, tutorials, several previous series, and several new ones. Every-
one will find something interesting, and everything in the best quality because quality is
the keyword for us. You certainly won't be disappointed. We are aware that not all texts
will interest everyone equally. However, we try to get to every retro computer equipment
fan, thanks to the variety of themes.

In this issue, we are starting the cover disk series on C64 under the name: "Good Old
8-Bit Games." This and all the upcoming editions will consist of our own loader and 11
games published with the consent of their creators or publishers. The GO8BG series
will be double-sided 5.25'' floppy disks. We also plan to prepare the box for storage,
more information on pages 8 and 9.

flawless embedding in its genre,

layer. Other platforms may envy
the VIC with such a full-blooded

Australian Moya Jackie McGeo-
ugh, also known as MightyMoya
or Amiga Cammy, boasted on her
Facebook profile the progress in
working on an Amiga game. Won-
der Girl in Monster Place (this is the
working title of this production) is
a classic arcade platformer. In the
graphics, we can find similarities
to Ruff 'n' Tumble, while the hero-
ine of the game is inspired by the
character Jill from the trilogy of
PC platformers: Jill of the Jungle.
The game is in the early stages of
production, and the author is strug-
gling with the problem of smooth
scrolling, resulting from the use
of the Backbone engine. What's
more, Moya is open to cooperation
in completing the project. We invi-
te anyone who wants to help.

Many boys dream of becoming
firemen. This is very noble of them,
although it usually ends with idle
declarations. It doesn't hurt to
play the Fire game - fire engine
simulator. During each of the 65
days, you should break through
the maze-tangled city, avoid an
accident while speeding through
on a fire engine on the street, and
finally save the people jumping out
of the burning flats. I like that the
author has combined several types
of games in this way. In my opinion,
Fire is suitable for the whole family,
especially if your children dream of
becoming a fireman. Unfortunately,
when I'm writing this, Double Sided
Games have run out of copies.

Despite its insignificant name, Leu
is a simple, but very useful browser
that allows you to view the con-
tents of MS Excel (XLSX), OpenOf-
fice (ODS), Turbo Calc (TCD) and
CSV files. The program uses the
benefits of MUI and already at
this stage offers basic document
editing and data export to suppor-
ted formats. The program is ava-
ilable in different versions for many
platforms, and it is completely free.

Finally! The great VIC-20 game
expected for years has been pu-
blished! Released by Double Sided
Games, the fifth part of the Realms
When I'm writing this short text,
I have a preview version of Looter
and I will tell you that I am very
excited. First of all, I love games that
focus on castles, creatures, ghosts,
etc. The main character of the
game is an experienced thief who
encounters an abandoned castle
hiding a lot of treasures. The buildings
are guarded by various creatu-
res hindering looting. Very good
graphics and soundtrack are the
main advantages of this title (it is dif-
ficult to comment on the playability
of the preview version). I am looking
forward to the full version.

Apparently, the owners of different
computers fight each other like
hooligans about which computer
is better. This is not entirely true,
but there is a grain of truth in every
rumor. In the game, we play the
role of a representative of one of
the Commodore, MSX, Amstrad or
Spectrum clans, and then we can
"explain" everything. You proba-
bly get bored after a dozen or so
times, but after careful workman-
ship, you can see that the game is
not free.

A few months ago, next to the le-
gal complexities around the Amiga
brand and in the shadow of the
released version 3.1.4, a new upda-
te of the Boing Bag 3 & 4 package
was released, intended for the
3.9.2 or 3.9.4 system (older version).
The purpose of the package is to
upgrade some components as well
as to improve stability and remove
Amiga OS errors. As the author
points out, this is a joint work of the
Amiga community. Pre-installation
of Boing Bag 1 and 2 is required for
installation, as well as the original
CD with the system issued by Ha-
age & Partner. Archive awaits for
download on amigan.1emu.net.

The well-known program for moni-
toring AmigaOS activity has been
updated. According to the author,
errors related to packet forwarding
and sorting between system han-
dlers have been corrected. Archives

The announced H.E.R.O. remake
finally saw the light of day. In the
labyrinth, we play the role of a jet
hunter who must find miners missing
in the mine. The hero has to defeat
dark tunnels, blocked passages,
and poisonous spiders. Amiga with
AGA chipset required.

Alex Kidd is a wonderful and color-
ful platformer created in the 80s by
Sega. Before the company created
the Sonic character, it was Alex
Kidd that was their mascot. Curren-
tly, thanks to Erik Hogan, the game
has been ported to Amiga using
the Scorpion Engine in just 48 hours
and presented at the KiwiJam
event in New Zealand.

them. That is why I probably liked
VIC Nibbler because of this. The
title combines two classic games
that I like - Pac-Man and Snake.
This is not a new idea because
it comes from the 1982 Nibbler
