y usual practice every month before
starting off the next production cycle is
to remove all traces of egg on face from
the previous issue’s travails. This month is no
exception and the editorial visage is positively
awash with albumen following an oversight on
last month’s
Workbench
feature, which saw all
Brian Derbyshire’s inches turned to feet.
Apologies then to Bri, who has been the victim
of a ‘global search’ – a digital facility that enables
editors to replace every instance of a specific
word or character at the push of a single button.
In this case it was the magical transformation of
speechmarks (“) into quotation marks (‘), and the
inevitable failure to remember that both
characters are employed when reporting
imperial measurements. Thus Bri’s otherwise
excellent and informed inbox preview of the
new Airfix Mosquito was somewhat
‘compromised’ by eccentric dimensions. Such
powerful tools should be used only with great
circumspection …
Fortunately readers will soon have an
opportunity to berate the Editor for his folly. This
is the issue we will have on sale at Scale
ModelWorld on 13th – 14th November.
Guideline will be there and I will welcome the
opportunity to talk to everyone on any matters
concerning
SAM,
our book production, or even
the railway magazines if your interests lie in that
field.
I am aware that we have a great many new
readers who have come on board in recent
months, likewise a number of contributors who
have ‘crossed the
floor’
. Both Jon and I will be
present on the Guideline stand on both days and
we look forward to answering any queries about
our publications, discussing subscriptions,
soliciting potential contributions, and blaming
any further oversights and omissions on Colin
‘Flying’ Pickett, who will not be present and thus
unable to speak in his own defence when the
buck is passed.
So if you are a new subscriber, if you are
considering ‘changing your brand’, or if you are a
long-term reader who simply wants to have a
chat then do come and see us at the show. It’s
been far too long since we got out and about
and I look forward to seeing you all there.
