Welcome
Well, the votes are in, the lines are closed
and the winner has been announced.
No don’t worry I haven’t gone mad
and decided to start talking about
the nonsense that is X Factor or Big
Brother, I am of course referring to
the London Show and the change to
date of the first one of next year.
Funnily enough next year marks my 20th
anniversary in the hobby (and of attending
the shows), in autumn 1996 I arrived at
a local publisher as a fresh faced 21 year
old sales guy, and in December of that
year I attended my first show at the Royal
National Hotel. Ever since that first show
I’ve attended, almost religiously, the three
events each year in March, June and
December so it came as a bit of a surprise
when I learned that a change to the dates
of some of the shows might be happening.
As some of you may be aware many traders
and collectors felt that a change of date to
either the March or June show was required
after this year’s events so Guideline (the
owners of this magazine and the show) sent
out a questionnaire to all the traders who
attend the show asking for their feedback
regarding when the first two shows of the
year should take place. Guideline have now
reviewed all of the responses and as such
the March show will not be in March next
year but will in fact be on April 2, 2016, so
make sure to put the date in your diary.
It’ll be strange for me, after 20 years, and
no doubt many of you to find ourselves
in London in April, after all I’m so used
to always being at the show in March,
June and December. The good news is
though that the show and the magazine
continue to go from strength to strength
proving that our hobby is still as popular
as it’s always been, and interestingly
Giles Brown of Dorset Soldiers who we
interviewed for this issue says exactly
the same, even though a number of
years ago he thought very differently.
Enjoy the issue, have a great Christmas and
New Year and see you all back here in 2016!

JG Miniatures
News from the Sheffield based scenic
wizard John Gittins is that he has a new
website now up and running (www.jg-
miniatures.com) which is certainly worth
a look. John’s been quiet with regards to
major new releases over the past couple
of years and that’s because he has been
working, when time permitted, on the
next phase of the Hougoumont Farm for
the battle of Waterloo.
This next phase, John told me, will
include the main Chateaux with ad-
joining Chapel (pictured), the Farmers
House , Pigsty, Barn, East gate and interior
dividing wall. These items will cover half
the total area of the complex. The first of
these items to be released, the Chateaux
and Chapel, are now available with
the remainder being released in the
run up to Christmas. John was hop-
ing to complete the whole complex
including the Great Barn, East side
outbuildings and the North Gate by
the end of this year but these items
will now be postponed and released
during 2016.
For reference this new item and
the existing Hougoumont range are
now only available direct from JG
Miniatures and not from any dealers, visit

Obituary
Creator of Treefrog
Treasures and the
Treefrog Forum, Shan-
non Reuss, passed away
on Sunday, October 18,
2015, in her home after
an 11�½ year journey with
ovarian cancer.

Shannon was born on
William and Janice Helfritz
April 18, 1970, in Colum-
bus, Ohio, to William and Janice Helfritz, she worked as a psy-
chiatric nurse from 1992 through 1997 before staying home to
raise her and husband Peter’s son, Benjamin. In her spare time,
she started a business, Treefrog Treasures, building one of the
premier retailers of military miniatures in the world. She prided
herself on building relationships within the industry, and will be
greatly missed. Her work took her around the world, with cher-
ished trips to Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Shanghai and London.
Shannon is survived by her husband, Peter; her son, Benja-
min; her parents William and Janice; her brother, William (Tara)
Helfritz II; her sister, Laura (Rondedrick) Sinville; as well as
numerous other family members.
Many people in our small community of toy soldier collecting
will miss Shannon immensely. She leaves an endearing legacy
and many good memories with all she had contact with.

Imperial Miniatures is a new
toy toldier company produc-
ing true 54mm, hand-painted
toy soldiers in the UK. Imperial
Miniatures owned and run
by Mike Lewis who has been
involved in moulding and
casting white metal figures
since he started the wargames
company Black Hat Miniatures in 2004.
The majority of IM’s figures come from the ‘All the Queen’s Men’ ranges which were produced
by Derek Cross until he retired in 2007 and which Mike bought in April 2015 through contact with
a local collector who had previously acquired all the ranges and moulds from Derek.
IM currently has all the masters and moulds for the Colonial and British in India Ranges, along
with some ordnance and they will be releasing the sets as they make new moulds and get the
figures painted, ideally adding one or two sets a month. Interest-
ingly IM have access to all the AQM moulds and masters, so they

LOD Enterprises
LODE is a new company
set up by Ken Ciak, who’s
first sets of plastic figures
are of Trojan & Greek
infantry. LOD100A War at
Troy Greek and Trojan toy
soldiers. Total of 16 figures 8
Greeks in 4 poses in cream
and 8 Trojans in 4 poses
in blue. Great combat and
archer poses. 60mm or 2
1/2” tall, soft plastic. He has
plans for more sets related
to these Trojan Wars ones.
These include cavalry and
chariots. The figures are
compatible with TSSD and
Xforce.

Action Castings
AC is another new
company, this one is
run by John Stengel Jr.
Last year at the Chicago
Toy Soldier show they
showed their first efforts
including WW2 German
Paras, Vikings, Medieval
types and Vietnam War.
The first releases are two
sets of Vietnam War US
Marines, with Viet Cong
to come later in the year.
These figures are being
made in the USA and are
priced $16.00 for 4 figures.
They only had 30 sets for
their launch at OTSN and
were taking orders from
customers for more. The
material used is ‘cold pour
plastic’, reported as being
stiffer than Barzo resin
but flexible. They have
been described as ‘big’ so
presumably 1/30th 60mm
but that should not be a
problem as there are no
other Vietnam War plastic
toy soldiers.
Alexandra
Pewter
Quite often we get letters asking where and
how do you go about getting moulds made, or
having castings produced. One company that
can help is Alexandra Pewter Limited, APL is
owned and operated by Alan Savage who has
over 40 years’ experience in the Sheffield pew-
ter industry. Alan started working primarily
with spun products such as tankards, goblets
etc and also block hand shaped spirit hip flasks
before being approached to develop a new
concept for the company he was working for,
centrifugal spin casting.
Self-taught, through trial and error he gradu-
ally learnt the process from mould making to
casting and from casting to finishing a product.
In 1999, with personal investment, the com-
pany was incorporated and named after Alan’s
daughter, Alexandra. The business is a small
family company run by Alan and his wife
Elaine. APL has the capacity to produce vari-
ous sizes of moulds in both black rubber and
silicone and they currently manufacture prod-
ucts using lead rich, part lead and lead free
metals to best suit their customers’ needs. APL
can cast from their customers own moulds

or make new ones as required. They can also
fettle or ‘dress’ the castings should a customer
request this and finish to whatever standard
the customer requires.
In the last few years Alan became involved
in the model/toy soldier hobby having been
approached initially through a friend of a
friend, since then he has taken on more work
of this type and now produces items for some
very respected ‘names’ within the hobby such
as the British Toy Soldier Company, GNM min-
iatures and JG miniatures. If you’re looking for
help with mould making and casting, in large
or small volumes, Alan may just be the man to
