So the UK government, and a number of other governments
in Europe and Asia, think they can ban new gasoline and
diesel IC engines by 2035. Well I’m telling you – right
here, right now: that won’t happen. But as the highly
informed, educated, well-rounded and rational lot you
are, you all already knew that anyway. So I won’t get
bogged down in the arguments as to why BEVs will be
the only (new!) vehicles on sale within less than just
two decades. It’s not that I’m a BEV hater – just turn to
page 17 to see what I made of the Jaguar I-Pace we had
on test recently. It’s more that IC engines have a lot more
to give, a lot more potential and a lot more to offer, not
just to the automotive industry, but to society in general.
Which is why here at
Engine + Powertrain Technology
International
we are launching, later this year, the
Sustainable Internal Combustion Engine Symposium – a
platform where experts will discuss and debate the
future of gasoline, diesel and alternative-fuel IC engines.
After all, battery electric cars aren’t the only solution to
true sustainable transportation!
This exciting conference is about how the traditional
automotive powertrain has a long future ahead of it when
it is developed and advanced beyond its current brief and
design constraints.
The symposium will dive deep into the engineering
and tech future of the IC engine, covering a huge range
of areas, including advanced under-hood lightweight
and sustainable materials, alternative fuels to reduce
and eliminate carbon emissions, and perhaps my
favorite: the path toward Euro 7 and beyond.
Expert speakers – each sourced by us here at
ETi
will present future concepts and technologies for the IC
engine. Expect to meet senior engineers and futurists
from the world’s car manufacturers, as well as Tier 1
companies and international research institutes.
You’ll also hear about the IC possibilities from
pioneering startups and market analysts. Furthermore,
we’ve invited legislators and emission-standard key
decision makers to join the debate in our all-attendees-
welcome panel discussions.
Some other key standout points of the program for me
include diesel in 2030; the evolution of fuels and what it
means for your engines; improving thermal dynamics;
efficient emission disposal technologies; and the future
for forced induction.
The Sustainable Internal Combustion Engine
Symposium will be held on June 16, 17 and 18 at the
Stuttgart Messe in Germany alongside Automotive
Testing Expo Europe, with 480+ exhibitors showcasing
the very latest engine and powertrain durability,
performance and emissions testing technologies and
services. Don’t forget to add the date to your diary – you
