			Features of MidiView

MidiView makes it easy to play any MIDI file and also helps you understand and appreciate MIDI music. Unlike other MIDI player programs, MidiView displays notes in colors based on channel, instrument, track, note/key, or volume. While you listen, you can see every note played by every instrument. A bar graph shows the volume of each channel. You can expand or compress the time scale and note range as the music scrolls by. All embedded text (title, composer, author, instruments, etc.) is listed each time you open a MIDI file. Play any combination of channels while listing each note and/or event as text. Single step forward or backward, scroll the music to any position and resume playing with correct tempo and control settings. MidiView is both educational and enjoyable -- you can study the details of MIDI music or just listen and watch as the colorful music unfolds.

			How to Install MidiView

If you are starting with the Shareware Version (a single file called MIDIVIEW.ZIP), you should first use PKUNZIP or a similar program to decompress all files to a floppy disk or a subdirectory on your hard drive.

The Install program copies all files (except INSTALL.EXE and MIDIVIEW.TXT) to a folder on any hard drive (for example, C:\MIDIVIEW). Install then adds the MidiView icon to the Music program group and optionally, lets you run MidiView.

The following procedure requires a disk folder containing INSTALL.EXE, MIDIVIEW.EXE, MIDIVIEW.HLP, MIDITIME.DLL, and DEFAULT.MID:

a.) If necessary, start Windows by typing WIN at the DOS prompt.

b.) Run the Install program by using Explorer or File Manager to locate the drive and folder containing INSTALL.EXE and then double-click INSTALL.EXE.

Alternatively, you can select Run... from the Start menu or the File menu of Explorer, File Manager, or Program Manager. In the Run dialog box, type X:Y\INSTALL in the Command Line: box, where X: is the drive and Y\ is the folder containing INSTALL.EXE. Select [OK] to begin.

c.) When the Install MidiView dialog box appears, you can edit the drive and directory (for example, C:\MIDIVIEW\), and then click the [Install MidiView] button or press <Enter>. The Install program will copy all required files to the given directory.

d.) After successful installation, you can click the [Run MidiView] button to run the program. Later, you can run the program by selecting the MIDIVIEW icon in the Music program group of either the Start menu or Program Manager.

			Troubleshooting

1. If you downloaded MidiView as a .ZIP file and the Unzip program did not work, try double-clicking MidiView.ZIP in Explorer or File Manager. If that does not bring up your ZIP file extraction utility, you may need to download a program such as WinZip or PKUnzip to extract the files.

2. If the Install program fails for some reason, just copy all of the files to a folder called MidiView on your disk drive. To start the program, use Explorer or File Manager to find the file called MIDIVIEW.EXE and then double-click that filename.
