e entrust to you the last 2019 issue of our quarterly magazine devoted entirely to the uni-
versally present colour green. It was a very interesting year for the whole AMMO team, a
fruitful year with numerous premieres of new breakthrough modelling products, books, and
our three exclusive models. It was also an extremely difficult and traumatic year for all of us, and for
our founder Mig Jimenez. The deteriorating health of his wife Elizabeth has been heartfelt by the entire
AMMO team. Hope dies last, which is why we believe that the setbacks will change and Eli will surprise
us again with her wit, creativity, and positive energy. Eli - you are not active with us now, but we hope
that our efforts brings you joy in these difficult moments. Green is the colour of hope, so we dedicate
this number to you Eli.
Green is also the colour most associated with the military. Despite the development of various camoufla-
ge patterns used to hide equipment and personnel from enemy eyes based on colours to match different
terrain, it is green that occupies a unique place, ranking as the most popular camouflage colour. When
the history of military camouflage development is viewed from a distance, it is easy to determine which
armies favoured this colour as the main camouflage for their equipment. A primary example are the deca-
des of Russian vehicles with their many greens including Alkidno Uretanovaya, the iconic 4BO, and post-
war XB518 Zashchitniy Zeleno, followed closely by the Americans all-encompassing famous Olive Drab.
Striking versions of green were also fielded by the British, Canadians, Australians, Poles, Romanians and
countless armies the world over have chosen green tones for uniforms and camouflage. An interesting
exception was the German army of the second world war, which at the beginning of the conflict chose
dark grey as the main colour for armoured vehicles, followed by versions of dark yellow. The Germans
quickly became convinced of their mistake and began to cover all types of equipment with creative and
elaborately masked patterns that included green tones, but that's a topic for a separate issue of the maga-
zine. We would like to share with you a collection of modellers most beloved war machines from various
conflicts, time periods, and countries of origin whose common denominator is GREEN!
