EXERCISE 8 – Work Breaks and Macro Use
Please make the necessary changes to the previously created simulation model such that: at
the machine Locations NC_1 and NC_2 a worker performs a visual inspection, which results
in a work break for the machines, every hour. Additionally the runtimes are expressed as
normal distribution such that: the NC_1 and NC_2 run for N (3,0.2), the Deburring for
N(1.5,0.2) and the QC for N(3.2,0.3).
Modelling Instructions:
1. Macros – Create 2 Macros: one that represents the
number_of_workers
with a default
value of 1 and defined Options for RTI in the Range From 1 To 5, and the second
defining the
deburring_capacity
with a default value of 1 and defined Options for RTI
in the Range From 1 To 7
2. Location – Assign the work break
USE
resource name
FOR
N(1.2,0.1)
under DTs…
/Usage…, with a frequency of 60 (or
1 hr)
and a priority of 99 (this defines the
precedence of the Usage case over logic expressions of lower priority). Also replace
the Capacity of the Deburring station with the defined Macro:
deburring_capacity
3. Resources – Replace the Units with the defined Macro:
number_of_workers
4. Processing – Update the run times for the NC_1, NC_2, Deburring and QC
5. Simulation – Carry out several simulations and review the statistics for differences,
resulting from applying random variables. In the simulation Options change the
Number of Replications: e.g. 5
