An exciting year
This is the last issue of 2017 in front of you.
For me it has been quite an exciting year:
my visit to Taiwan, the Golden Concave
Award, the amazing world bonsai congress
in Japan and last, but not least, the Bonsai
Focus Japan Tour. The Golden Concave Award
was one of the highlights that made
a great impression on me. It
was very rewarding to see
the many submissions
with very good trees.
Then on top of that
the reward ceremony
was held during the
World Bonsai Congress
in Japan. We didn't believe
it would happen, but it did,
and received with such huge
enthusiasm that we are already making
plans for the next edition. We will keep you
posted on that.
Besides practical information on techniques
and the ‘do’s and don’ts’, we focus a bit more
on the cultural side of things in this issue.
As well as the wonderful pots of Peter Krebs,
a real master in bonsai ceramics, we show
how his amazing craftsmanship goes hand in
hand with the mystical and philo-
sophical culture of China and
Japan.
Inspired by the very
same aesthetics and
thinking, is Massimo
Bandera, who has
his own garden with
bonsai hidden in the
North Italian mountains.
He has a whole individual
approach to bonsai.
More food for thoughts is given by
Morten Albek who, at our request, let his
analytical mind flow through some of the
shohin displays seen at the World Bonsai
Convention.
