s this issue of Ships Monthly
was being finalised, it was
announced that P&O Ferries
are set to close the Hull to
Zeebrugge route, and sell the two ships
that have operated it for many years.
Although the route, which is known
to have been loss-making for a number
of years, has been heavily impacted by
Covid-19, the news is still disappointing
as the two ships have recently been
refurbished. The route is particularly reliant
on passengers, a;though also
carries a significant amount of
freight, and consequently
the pandemic has had a

more significant impact on it, but how
many more ferries will be withdrawn from
their pre-Covid routes?
We have a full report on the Zeebrugge
closure in the news pages, while our
features include articles on the world’s
largest cruise ships (those operated by
Royal Caribbean), the world’s largest ship
(Pioneering Spirit), as well as two of the
Royal Navy’s most famous aircraft carriers,
both named HMS Illustrious.
