This ZIP contains a upgrade to the Garmin Software for the Chrysler 300 2011 and 2012
8.4N Navigation system. It will probably work on any Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicle of
the 2011 or 2012 year.

It is ONLY FOR THE FACTORY INSTALLED 8.4N UCONNECT TOUCH NAVIGATION UNIT FOR 2011 AND 2012 VEHICLES.

WARNING!!!
It wont work with MyGig or the smaller 4.3 nav unit. (Its not been tested on these and don't
come crying to me or Garmin if you install this on the wrong nav unit or the wrong
vehicle year).

This brings the Nav up to version 4.14. (Factory was 3.20)
(Check the About button to find version).

WHY YOU MIGHT WANT THIS:

The Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep 8.4N Nav unit that runs Garmin Software is capable of using custom Points of Interest
files that you can create with Garmin POI-Loader software.

If you go to POI-factory.com you can download pre-made POI files for all sorts of things, for free, and for a
small annual fee you can get redlight and speed camera locations. I use several of these in my Nav unit,
wineries, breweries, Cabelas, etc. (Heaven forbid I pass a Cabelas without knowing it was there!).

Any POI file can be constructed with a PROXIMITY ALERT setting will sound a BING when you get within range,
or are going too fast for a speed camera, or they can be designed to be just available in your nav as points
of interest you can search for (in the Extras category on your Car Nav).

THE PROBLEM:

There is a BUG in the Factory software on the 2012 and 2013 Chrysler 300 (any mopar car with the 8.4n
Nav) that causes the Nav unit fail to open the audio channel for points of interest notifications. The nav
is alerting on the screen about the notifications, but not opening the audio channel to the sound system.

The symptoms are that the Red-light or Speed Cam notices appear on the screen but there is no audible BING tone.
Consequently you will miss the Point of interest or blow right by that speed-camera.
If a turn-by-turn announcement happens to be playing you might also hear the Proximity Alert bing,
but otherwise it will be silent.

I worked with Chrysler (they had no clue) who sent me to Garmin. The techs and I exchanged test files,
and after much back and forth they actually went to the trouble to get a 300 and test drive it, and
found they could replicate the problem. They got Bing sounds in their test-bench but NOT in an actual car.

Their software engineers built a new Nav Software, (Version 4.14) that fixes this problem, and they sent it
to me, and in my testing it solves this problem, and points of interest now sound proximity alerts.

This software will be released to Chrysler for upgrading user Nav units in a a month or two, but chances are
unless you ask for it your dealer will not install it.

A asked Garmin if I could provide this file to other units and their techs sent me written permission to do so.

WHAT TO DO:
Expand the Garmin.zip onto a CDROM or a USB thumb drive. You should have nothing on the thumb drive except
a directory named GARMIN and withing that directory a single file called GUPDATE.GCD. You only need a
small thumb drive for this. The file is 29,518 KB, or 29megabytes so even a obsolete 256meg thumb drive is
overkill.

Read the directions in the instalation-instructions.pdf supplied by garmin.
Simple instructions: Turn your car to ACC on (no need to actually start it), insert CDrom, or Thumb drive,
say Yes, to the install prompt, and sit back and watch. Its all automatic and when it is done the
nav unit will reboot, and "About" on-screen button will show version 4.14.

See Garmin.com for the POI-Loader software if you want to build your own Points of Interest files or
install files downloaded from poi-factory.com.	Also see poi-factory.com and other sites for sources
of interesting Points of Interest files.
