( Investigation in this matter was predicated upon
eipt of information from the .San Francisco Division of
Federal Bureau of Investigation that on January 2, 1S75>
CHAEigS GOULD, "San Francisco Examinerâ€, San Francisco,
California, furnished to the FBI an envelope sent to RANDOLPH
A. HEARST, postmarked Cleveland, Ohio, December 30, 1974,
which contained the following typed letter:

"Mr. RANDOLPH HEARST

†I will get to the point and I think you
should keep en open mind about what I have to say,
first of all you are not to let anyone see this
letter and don't let your feds friends in on this
eather, up to now PATTY has been with us all the
way but lately she keeps talking about one big
bash I will tell you now we will never get cough
alive and neather will she, but we will turn“"her~“
over to you Tor a price we only held on to her for
insurance well now it is time for us to collect
now hear is what you will do and nobody better
know oT†it eather up to now your friends and cops
have made it worse for all of us well -the question
now is how much do you really want her or do you
think you can get the money her grandfather left
her, eather way hear is what you will do.

"First of all you are to go to Cleveland Ohio
and you are to be there by the 4th of Jan. 1975
no later then 8 o’clock Cleveland time P.M. You
will go to the phones by the bank on the ground
level there you will stay until we call you it
will be one of the phones nearest to the bank there
you will get futher news as to what to do from
there, now I teTl you again no one is to know and
if. you fail to comply with us you will never see
PATTY again I swear it to you on my oth as a honest
S.L.A. leader.

"if you think your money is more important
then she is then don’t show up and you will live
reget it. And you can take this letter as a
phony but the real truth will be how much do you

really want PATTY back sorry for the bad wording
and paper but you see we don't live as good as
you. We have to live the best way we can right
' now. PATTY has lost weight but other then that
she is alright and she doesn't think, much of you
eather and she is right all you think of is your
money and posision well my friend when you come
to Cleveland bring along 250,000 dollars with
you in small bills and don't get any ideas about
gettin_ it marked becoause we will fine out and
if it is and if you let anyone know about it you
will get a chance to see PATTY but not the way .
you want to if you know what we mean, so we will
see you on the 4th.

"We will live to the end.
S.L.A."
