ASM Criteria 
 
 
In this lesson we cover what the ASM criteria are and why they 
are so important in selecting your first profitable product. 
These criteria have been developed through our own 
experiences, as well as our mentors and other members. 
Use the information in this document to ensure that you 
choose a winning product!

1. Best Sellers Rank (BSR) 
“The Amazon Best Sellers calculation is based on Amazon.com sales and is 
updated hourly to reflect recent and historical sales of every item sold on 
Amazon.com.” (Amazon.com)  
 
ASM uses BSR ranges to determine the products that are viable in each 
category, because each category varies in demand and competition.  
 
Best Seller Rank only applies to top level categories. Larger categories with 
more demand will have a wider range. If you choose a product near the top of 
the range (with a lower BSR), you will have more sales AND more competition.  
 
NOTE:​

lesson video), to help guide you as you start searching for a product to sell.  
 
Competing Products 
You will also need to use BSR ranges for the two competing products.  
 
NOTE:​
These ranges differ from the primary product ranges.  
2. Price Range 
The price range we recommend for new products is $17-$70. This is the price 
the product actually sells for on Amazon. If you choose a higher price, usually 
there is a higher profit margin, but generally the inventory will cost more. A

lower priced item can mean a lower profit margin, but your first inventory 
order will be less expensive.

3. Weight and Size 
Product weight and size are important to consider for shipping costs. If you 
chose to have your first inventory delivered via air (to get it to market quicker), 
it will be more expensive if your items are large and/or heavy. Mike will be 
going into further detail about this in Module 2.  
 
Size 
It is difficult to give exact parameters for the size of your product, but usually 
the smaller the better. Make sure to avoid Amazon’s oversize limit: 18” x 14” x 8.”  
 
Weight 
For your first product we recommend you chose a product that’s 5 lbs or 
lighter. This is to ensure your first product can be shipped via air.  
 
NOTE:​
In Module 2, you will learn how to ship part of your inventory by air and 
the remainder by sea, so you can get to market fast and still save money on 
shipping. 
 
Weight will also affect your profit margin. The heavier a product is, the higher 
the shipping costs will be.

4. Reviews 
The number of reviews of the primary and competing products are important, 
as it gives you an idea how easy or hard it might be to compete with other 
products. Reviews come more into focus when we are narrowing down our list 
of opportunities, but you will still need to watch them while compiling the list. 
 
Remember this general rule of thumb when looking at the number of reviews: 
 
1-100 reviews - low competition 
101-500 reviews - moderate competition 
501-1000 reviews - high competition 
1001+ reviews - ultra high competition 
 
NOTE:​
You do not have to beat the number one product to build a successful 
business. 
 
When looking at reviews, remember to look at reviews across the primary and 
competing products. If all 3 have 1000+, remove that product from your list. 
However, if only one or two have them, leave the product on the list.  
5. Stretching the Criteria 
The criteria were created for a reason - they work! We
strongly recommend 
of the criteria, you might end up with a product with too much competition, 
not enough sales, or a non-existent profit margin.
