ADM Quick Start Guide
INSTALLING THE APPLICATION DOWNLOAD MANAGER
Application Download Manager (ADM
®
) is a PC software application that connects to the Vetronix MTS 3100. It is designed
to allow you to easily transfer updated applications from the supplied CD-ROM or the Vetronix website to your mass storage
cartridge (MSC) and/or program card.
1. Install the ADM Application
1. Insert the ADM CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
2. If the installation doesn't begin automatically, navigate to the CD/DVD-ROM drive and double-click the
Setup.exe
file.
3. Click
Next
from the
Welcome
screen and review the ADM license agreement. Click the radio button where
it says
I accept the terms in this license agreement
and then click
Next
in order to continue with the
installation.
4. Click
Next
to advance past the
Ready to Install Program
screen.
5. Click
Finish
to complete the installation. The ADM and all download applications are now installed on
your PC. Choose
Vetronix
and then
Application Download Manager
from the Programs menu to launch
the application.
2. Connect the Tester to the PC
1. Connect the DB9 serial port connector to the PC.
2. Connect one end of the RS-232 cable to the COM port adapter on the PC.
3. Connect the opposite end of the RS-232 cable to the RS-232 port on the bottom left side of the MTS 3100.
4. Connect the tester to the 12-Volt power supply.
5. ADM is designed to automatically detect the correct COM port. If you wish to manually select the COM
port, select Setup COM Port from the File drop-down menu and select the correct COM port. Perform a
COM Port Self-Test to verify the correct COM port was selected. See your PC user documentation for
information on COM port configuration.
3. Obtain unique IDs for your MSC and Program Card
Before you can download a licensed application, you must first obtain the unique IDs for your MSC and/or program card.
Note:
When opening the application for the first time, the
Get ID numbers
screen is displayed. Click
Next
to
continue.
1. Follow the instructions on the ADM screens to properly read IDs from both program cards and/or MSCs.
These steps guide you through the process of enabling the ADM to download your applications.
2. Choose
Get Another ID
to read IDs from additional program card or MSCs as you go through these steps.
You can also choose to advance to the next step or beyond with the on-screen buttons.
3. If you need to read further IDs after completing this process, select
Program Card ID
or
MSC ID
from the
Utilities menu at the top of the screen.
4. As the IDs are read, screens are shown containing the ID of each program card and MSC. Either write these
numbers down or copy and paste them into a text editor to save them. You will need these numbers to
complete the licensing process for all MTS 3100 applications.
4. Downloading Application Software
When you reach the
Download/License
screen, there may be applications listed in one or both panes (right and left). Those in
the right pane are ones that require a license in order to download them to your program card or MSC. Those in the left pane
are licensed files and can be downloaded only to the licensed program card or MSC. If you have multiple program cards or
MSCs but only one license, you may not be able to download until the correct program card or MSC is installed into your
MTS 3100.
1. If the
Download/License
screen isn't displayed, select
Download
from the File drop-down menu on the main
ADM
screen. This screen displays the licensed applications on the left and unlicensed applications on the
right.
Note:
Be aware that applications for the program card and the MSC could be in the same list.
2. Select the appropriate licensed application from the left panel and click
Download.
3. The
Communication Instructions
screen appears reminding you of the necessary preparatory steps. Click
Next
to proceed.
Note:
When performing an ADM download, a PC screen saver may interrupt the ADM download operation. Turn
off the PC screen saver before performing a download. Error messages may appear before or during the download.
The most common error is a loose or unconnected RS-232 cable. If this occurs, reattach the cable and try again.
4. Should you wish to terminate the download process, click the
Cancel
button. Upon completion of the
download a dialog box indicates the elapsed download time. Click
OK
to continue.
5. Remember to cycle power to the tester before accessing the applications on the MSC.
Note:
If an error message is displayed during the download refer to the Troubleshooting section of the ADM Help
file for suggested solutions.

ADM

software version information. To obtain this information, select Help/About ADM from ADM's Main
menu.
The operating system on your PC (Windows® 98, XP, 2000) and the version number of that operating
system.
